 Missions

First Baptist Church, through the leadership of our Mission Council, provides many opportunities to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in our community, state, nation, and around the world.  Below are some of our many mission experiences.

Local
Disaster Relief

Our Baptist Men are active both locally and nationally when disaster strikes.  Our disaster recovery trailer is one tool that we utilize on a regular basis to help meet the needs of those in crisis and to share the love of Christ in a hands-on way. Whether it is a neighbor who needs a fallen tree to be cut-up and removed, or a national tragedy such as the flooding experienced due to hurricanes, our Baptist Men are ready and active, cooperating with other churches throughout the state and beyond to do Kingdom work.

Handyman Ministry
The Handyman Ministry has taken as their mission to use their time and talents to help others in our community with various jobs around the house. Their ministry includes repairing homes, building ramps, painting, power washing, moving debris and cleaning yards at no cost to the recipients. They have been a blessing to our community. You may contact either Phil Nelson @ 222-4674 or George Gilbert @ 726-2417 for more information.

Operation Inasmuch

This is a one day mission blitz where we are touching people's lives and sharing the love of Jesus Christ  in our community through hands on mission projects such as painting, construction, gardening, power washing, washing windows, cleaning gutters, house cleaning, baking & delivering bread, and delivering care packages.  Check out more about Operation Inasmuch at www.operationinamuch.com.  This normally takes place in April or early May.

Habitat for Humanity

We provide lunches on the fourth Tuesday of each month for volunteers who are working on homes being built by Habitat for Humanity.  On occasions we will have a team who will help with the construction of a home.

White Christmas

Each year in December we share the love of Christ by providing approximately 50 needy families in our community with a box of groceries that will include a turkey and other staples.

Operation Christmas Child

We partner each year with Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child by providing shoe boxes filled with love for hurting boys and girls throughout the world. More than 7.6 million shoe boxes were collected in 2009.

Mission Carteret
Mission Carteret is a four day local mission trip experience where churches and other non-profits come together to help our neighbors in need right here in   Carteret County.  Projects may consist of home repair, painting, yard work, Back Yard Bible Clubs, washing windows, baking & delivering cookies, and sewing projects.  This normally takes place in July.

Mission Carteret Fall Festival

In 2009 we had our first Mission Carteret Fall Festival with ten churches who hosted a community Fall Festival at the Morehead City Parks and Recreation.  We were able to provide a fun, exciting, and safe environment for families and children to experience Halloween that included free games, inflatable games, local bands, dunking booth, cake walks, hot dogs, drinks, popcorn, and cotton candy.

Martha's Mission

Martha's Mission  is an emergency food pantry established to provide the needy citizens of Carteret County a temporary supply of nutritious and balanced food at no cost.   We provide financial support and volunteers to help with this ministry throughout the year.  In addition we  sponsor various food drives to help stock their food pantry.  You can discover more about this ministry at http://www.mathasmission.org.

Hope Missions

Hope Mission Christian Ministries, Inc. is a non-profit Christian ministry which seeks to serve disadvantaged persons of Carteret County. They seek to assist with human need through a community kitchen, night shelter, recovery system services and emergency financial assistance.  We provide financial support and volunteers to help with this ministry.   You can discover more about this ministry at www.hmcm.org.

Harborview Nursing Home

Once a month our Adult Bible Fellowship groups will minister to the residents at Harborview Nursing Home with music, Bible study, smiles, and hugs.  For more information on this ministry you may contact Debbie Butler at 342.5607.
