Discipleship University

 Discipleship
Anyone who professes to accept Jesus Christ as his or her personal Lord and Savior is a disciple of Christ.  The question for Christians is not "Do I want to be a disciple?" but rather "Do I want to grow as a disciple?"   Therefore, in order to grow as a disciple of Christ, it requires us to continue learning, growing, and maturing in our spiritual journey.   Our Sunday morning Bible Study Groups are a great way to consistently study the Bible, fellowship with other believers, and grow in our faith.  We also have "Life Groups" that meet at various times for the purpose of creating more intimacy and accountability in your spiritual journey.

Discipleship University offers numerous short-term courses for the purpose of providing a deeper understanding on areas such as:

· Personal Growth (spiritual disciplines, theology, doctrines, etc.)

· Family Enrichment (parenting, marriage, finance, divorce care, etc.)

· Support (recovery for addictions, divorce, aging parents, etc.)

· Leadership Development

· Evangelism

Most courses will be from eight to 12 weeks and meet once a week.   Some will meet on Wednesday evenings and others may meet on Sunday or some other time.  Sign up online, Sunday Morning , or by calling the church office.  If you have any questions contact Darrell Williams at 726.4142 or email dwilliams@clis.com .  There is a cost for most studies that will cover the cost of the book.

2012 Winter Semester Schedule

Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God

Written by Henry Blackaby, Richard Blackaby, and Claude King, the Experiencing God Bible Study is based on the Experiencing God book, which has sold millions of copies worldwide. Since 1990 God has used this study to touch and change millions of lives and thousands of churches around the world. Through examination of biblical and contemporary illustrations, participants will understand and apply seven realities of experiencing God. Churches will be helped to better function as the body of Christ, as members understand how to experience God as a church.  Tim Lockey will lead this 13 week study beginning on Wednesday, January 11 @ 6:30pm in room #203.  The cost of the workbook will be $15.00.  Click here to sign up.

James - Mercy Triumphs by Beth Moore

This Beth Moore study will provides a personal study experience through the book of James.  James, Jesus' own brother, started out as a skeptic. You will get a glimpse of how the resurrected Savior turned an unbeliever into a disciple. Bible scholars compare James to the prophet Amos. In other ways, James more closely resembles the Book of Proverbs than any other New Testament book. Topics in this study include: joy, hardship, faith, reversal of fortunes for rich and poor, wisdom, gifts from above, single-mindedness, the dangers of the tongue, humility, and prayer.  Cost of the workbook will be $18.  Deborah Lockey will lead the following groups:

·         Monday at 10am beginning on January 16 in the Youth Suite.

·         Tuesday Evening at 7pm beginning on January 17 at the home of Deborah Lockey

Ecclesiastes - The Pursuit: Chasing Answers to Life's Questions

The Book of Ecclesiastes raises the most challenging questions that we face in life in a very realistic way which will remind us what life is really like when we choose the pattern of this world rather than what God has to give. The question for readers of Ecclesiastes is: "Can meaning in life come from outside of a God-centered universe?" Ecclesiastes speaks to the very people who are most likely to build their lives on success, wealth, power, and intellectual reputation. Repeatedly, the book points out the futility of such a way of life, urging instead that readers face their need for God.  This study will be  led by Pastor Darrell Williams on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm beginning on January 11 in the Conference Room.   There is not a cost for this study, however, a book is available if you would like to purchase.  Click here to register.

 Courageous Living

In the new film Courageous (from the makers of Fireproof), four law officers are confident and focused when standing up to the worst the streets have to offer. But leading their families at home in a God-honoring way? That takes courage. Based on the movie, the Courageous Living Bible Study will guide the participant toward living more courageously in four key areas:

· Responsibility - serving, protecting, and casting a vision for the family

· Priorities - focusing on eternal things rather than what is temporary

· Legacy - recognizing a father's potential impact as a godly role model

· Faith - increasing in wisdom and strengthening a father's identity in Christ

This Study will
begin on Sunday, February 5 at 9:45am during our Adult Bible Fellowship Time.  The movie will be shown on Saturday, January 28 in the Family Life Center.  Cost of the Courageous Living Bible Study book is $7.  Click here to register.

24 Hours That Changed the World

No single event in human history has received more attention than the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth. In this book, Adam Hamilton guides us through the last twenty-four hours of Jesus' life. Each chapter is designed to help the reader experience and understand the significance of Jesus' suffering and death in a way you have never done before. Whether readers are long-time Christians or simply curious about the story of Christ's crucifixion, they are invited to join the author in retracing the last 24 hours of Jesus' life.   There is not a cost for this study, however, a book is available if you would like to purchase at a cost of $12.  Contact the Church office if you would like to order the book. This study will be  offered on Sunday afternoon beginning on February 12 at 4pm in the Sanctuary and led by Dr. Jesse Croom.  It will also be offered on Wednesday evenings beginning on February 15th at 6:30pm in the Conference Room and led by Pastor Darrell Williams.
